No-Gi
Submission grappling without the gi. Faster pace, wrestling-based control, and world-class leg lock instruction.
Grappling Without the Gi
No-gi jiu-jitsu strips the art down to its essentials. Without the traditional gi to grip, the pace increases, transitions happen faster, and the emphasis shifts toward wrestling-based control and leg lock systems.
At Panza Jiu-Jitsu, no-gi training is grounded in Coach Panza's competition-tested specialties: the 50/50 guard and the straight ankle lock. These are not theoretical techniques — Panza built his competitive career around leg attacks, with approximately 40% of his competitive submissions coming from foot locks. His instructional content on BJJ Fanatics has helped spread these systems worldwide.
Whether you come from a gi background and want to expand your game, train MMA, or simply prefer the no-gi style, this class gives you a direct line to world-class submission grappling instruction.

How No-Gi Differs from Gi
In gi jiu-jitsu, you can grip the collar, sleeves, and pants — which creates a slower, more methodical game. No-gi removes those grips entirely. The result is faster scrambles, more emphasis on underhooks and overhooks, and greater reliance on wrestling and body-lock control. Leg locks play a larger role in no-gi, and transitions between positions happen at a higher tempo.
What to Wear
A rash guard (tight-fitting athletic top) and grappling shorts are standard. No pockets, no zippers, no buttons — anything that can catch fingers or toes is a safety issue. If you do not have grappling-specific gear for your first class, fitted athletic clothing works.
Who This Is For
Anyone interested in submission grappling. MMA practitioners who want to sharpen their ground game. Gi practitioners looking to broaden their skill set. People who prefer the faster, grip-free style. All levels are welcome — this class is taught at the same all-levels format as our adult gi classes.
